The Location & The Style of Wine

Situated in the beautiful rugged high altitude hills of Queensland's Granite Belt at 980 metres above sea level, our estate has hot summers and bitterly cold winters. This climate, together with the arid granite rocky soils, draws similar comparisons to high regions close to the Mediterranean. Areas such as north-eastern Spain, the inland south-west of France around Cahors and Gaillac, and the upper Rhone Valley in France, bear a great resemblance to Granite Belt terrain. These regions have a tradition of delicious characterful wines that are wonderful accompaniments to food. At Hidden Creek we have adopted the grape varieties and inspiration of these regions.

The People behind Hidden Creek

The winemaker and part owner is Jim Barnes, professionally qualified at Charles Sturt University, and a renowned award-winning winemaker. A part owner is Andrew Corrigan MW, a well known wine commentator and educator who is one of Australia's few Masters of Wine. His international wine expertise brings great knowledge of Mediterranean and European wine styles to Hidden Creek. Other members of the ownership consortium are Brisbane construction industry businessmen Paul Boddington, Nick Herron, David Wilson, Robin Fardoulys and Scott Hutchinson.
